What we believe
Statement of Faith
We intentionally keep our Statement of Faith as simple as possible. We are not looking for a debate on Biblical issues that can be interpreted differently by genuine believers. Rather we focus on the historical Christian truths that have unified believers since the early New Testament church:
- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
- God told his people (the Israelites), through His prophets, to expect a messiah—explaining in great detail how to identify Him.
- Jesus is that promised messiah, the son of God, born to a virgin Jewish girl named Mary.
- Jesus performed many miracles; healing the sick & raising the dead.
- He lived a perfect life but died the death of a sinner. He accepted this punishment on our behalf, that we might have eternal life with Him in Heaven.
- After three days he came back from the dead. He was seen and touched by hundreds of people for over 40 days, after that Jesus went up to Heaven.
- Only by placing our entire hope (faith, trust) in Him can we be saved. We cannot buy nor earn our way into Heaven by being good enough.
- God gave us the Holy Spirit by whose power Christians are able to live a godly life.
- Those who accept Christ are rewarded with Him in Heaven; the lost are punished.
We hold to the very essence of the New Testament tradition. We keep a firm grasp on the essentials of the Christian faith, and refrain from following individual issues to an extreme position. We avoid arguing about denominational issues, but must draw the line at some point.
Some of the Things We Reject:
- Universalism–where everyone gets a “pass” (warm and fuzzy, but not Biblical)
- Special revelations that conflict with the Old or New Testaments (Adventist, Mormon, Watchtower, Christian Science etc.)
- False Prophets (Adventist, Watchtower, etc.)
- Antisemitism (we love Jews, & want them to learn about their Messiah)
- Anti-Catholicism (Many Roman Catholics love, worship & rely on Christ, though our first century theology doesn’t leave room for many Roman Catholic practices
